The Hatfield & McCoy Feud Tour App is an easy and convenient way to discover the history and the real sites of the Hatfield-McCoy Feud.

Direct descendants of both the Hatfields and McCoys who grew up along the creeks of the region designed the Feud App. With the use of actual court testimonies, interviews, confessions and newspaper articles from the 1880s and 1890s, the Feud App provides a unique perspective from the view of the participants in their own words.

Interviews with Devil Anse Hatfield and Ellison Cotton Top Mounts are included along with court testimony from Randall McCoy, Sarah McCoy, Valentine "Wall" Hatfield and others.

An example is Sarah McCoys court testimony from 1889, stating, "“I fell on my knees and began praying begging and crying for my children. Wall said there was no use of that, he would not have it. I remember seeing there at the time Cap, Johns, Carpenter, Dan Whitt, Alex Messer, Bill Tom Hatfield, and others and they were all armed.” She also stated, “While over at the mouth of Mate, I heard Wall say that if Ellison Hatfield died, he would shoot the boys as full of holes as a sifter bottom.”

It is designed with GPS technology to show your position, the location of the feud site of interest and a possible route that can be used to plan your trip in areas where GPS signal is available.

Even if you are not planning to visit the sites in person, the Feud App is designed as a convenient way to “tour” the sites on your mobile device. The sites include historical background as well as an image gallery. Both recent and historical photographs are used to show you what the region and participants looked like.

Learn that the participants were not only Hatfields and McCoys. Various family surnames included: Cline, Staton, Ellis, Phillips, Christian, Chambers, Mitchell, Browning, Vance, Mayhorn, Gillespie, Mounts, Messer, Wallace and Whitt. Important political figures play a role including Governor Simon Buckner of Kentucky and Governor Emanuel Willis Wilson of West Virginia. The feud even involved a case ruled upon by the United States Supreme Court in 1888 (Mahon v. Justice).
